GLEE - Unleashing the Inner Loser!

"Glee" is the brand new show on Star World that has captured
the imagination of the young and old, in India....
and, especially, here, in Kolkata.
"Glee" is in the musical-drama genre, which itself is a new concept for us,
as far as English language television series is concerned.....
yet, it is something that all of us fed the regular dose of Indian films laden with songs and dances are well acquainted with.
We love the drama, we love the excesses, and we love the deeper conflicts resolved in a naturally liberating manner that has an easy charm.
The series is originally aired, in the United States, on Fox, and the first season had started there last September. But, in India, the series is just about to have the first season finale.
We have woken up late, but with a lot of fervor and glee!
A brief intro for the uninitiated:
The plot focuses on a high school show choir (a modern glee club) called New Directions, at the fictional William McKinley High Schoolin Lima, Ohio.
The show, created by Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan, features select music with popular appeal and chart hits. The song covers are essentially sung onscreen by the characters themselves. Choreographed by Zach Woodlee, the show features five to eight production numbers per episode.
There are twelve main roles with star billing. Matthew Morrison plays Will Schuester, a Spanish teacher, who becomes director of the glee club, hoping to restore it to its former glory. Jane Lynch plays Sue Sylvester, head coach of the Cheerios cheerleading squad, and the Glee Club's arch-nemesis. Jayma Mays appears as Emma Pillsbury, the school's mysophobic guidance counselor who has feelings for Will, and Jessalyn Gilsig plays Terri Schuester, Will's wife of five years. Lea Michele plays Rachel Berry, talented star of the glee club who is often bullied by the Cheerios and football players. Cory Monteith plays Finn Hudson, star quarterback of the school's football team who risks alienation by his friends to join the glee club. Also in the club are Amber Riley as Mercedes Jones, a fashion-conscious diva who resents having to sing back-up; Colfer as Kurt Hummel—a gay male soprano; Kevin McHale as Artie Abrams, a guitar player and paraplegic; and Jenna Ushkowitz as Tina Cohen-Chang, an Asian American student with a fake speech impediment.Mark Salling plays Noah Puck Puckerman, a friend of Finn's on the football team who at first disapproves of Finn joining the glee club, but later joins the glee club himself. Dianna Agron plays Quinn Fabray, Finn's cheerleader girlfriend, who too joins the club later.

Hey, guess what..... I am hooked to "Glee"..... heehee.....
It's a fun-watch in every way, the songs, the characters, the conflicts feels so very real even with the abstraction of song & dance!
Eagerly awaiting the Second Series ....after the First Season comes to a close this weekend!!!!!!

I think that one of the prime reasons for the show's stupendous success is that it refers to themes and touches on issues which might have a deeper resonance but are dealt with in an easy, viewer-friendly manner, much like the super-successful sitcom 'Friends'. Be it in the U.S. or here, in India, people are somewhat reluctant to see the controversial topics blow up on their faces, in their living rooms, on a serious & radical note. However, when the modality itself is something not so challenging, it is accepted almost readily..... queer, but true; pun intended.

Buddy, as the Indian leg of the telecast of Season One of 'Glee' comes to a close with the grand finale tonight, on Star World, I am thrilled to comment on it!
'Glee' might be set in Ohio, Indiana, yet it is a tele-series that we can easily associate with, just as we had warmed up to the cult screen musicals like 'Grease' and 'Flashdance'. A huge plus for the series is the choice of songs. The songs are all too familiar, having a great recall value. I love the optimism that underlies each and every episode.
The actors like Matthew Morrison, Lea Michele, Jane Lynch, Chris Colpher, and Cory Monteith have all become household names now, thanks to the popularity of the series, they have made the characters so very identifiable.

Cool post, dude! Very topical indeed, as GLEE is, perhaps, the flavor of the season...... I am yet to get addicted to it as such, but... ya, I agree that the series does have its moments that one can relate to, it's much more appealing than 'High School Musical', which is too kiddish. In fact, GLEE can be considered to be an antithesis of HSM.

Loved to read about your new found love - Glee!
You must be pleased to know that two of your favorite shows are now blending in a unique manner.....
Glee meets The Simpsons!!!!!!!!!
Lea Michele (Rachel), Cory Monteith (Finn), and Amber Riley (Mercedes) are to lend their voices to an episode of The Simpsons for cartoon versions of their characters.
Rachel, Finn, and Mercedes will be featured on the season premiere episode, titled Elementary School Musical. The characters interact with Lisa as she enrols in a performing arts summer camp and learns of her love of the stage.
You may pick up the Twitter thread on the same.....
The cartoon versions of the hot-favorite McKinley students will be paying homage to their personal styles. Rachel's signature poses are mimicked, Finn's hairstyle is the same, and Mercedes' love of accessories too won't go unnoticed.
I know, it is unfair to compare the popularity of The Simpsons with that of Glee as the former will be in its 22nd Season while the latter is just in its 2nd Season, yet both are giant success stories for the channel - Fox!

I love 'Glee', unabashedly!
Star World has really brought us some of the coolest shows - 'Glee', 'Castle' and 'Bones' topping my list.
I would also wish that HBO airs its best shows here, in India.... and without the disgusting cuts (as they did in in 'True Blood').

The day I saw the first teaser promo of the series, where the characters are making the L-sign (for "loser") with fingers on their forehead, I knew that GLEE was genuinely going to be a different experience all the way. And I can say that I was amply rewarded. I caught on with the GLEE-mania from the very beginning, and I hope my faith in it shall be strengthened in the forthcoming series, yet to air here, that promises to have many big names in it (after featuring the likes of Josh Groban and Olivia Newton-John in the first season's finale, this time it's going to handsomely showcase Britney Spears!), and there are talks of special episodes on Madonna, Michael Jackson and The Beatles. Great fun must be in the offing!

The 2nd Season of Glee has much to be gleeful about..... Chord Overstreet is going to play the new guy in Kurt's life. Hahaha..... I am glad that Kurt won't have to keep on pining over Finn and the new star quarterback at McKinley High, Sam, played by Chord Overstreet would be Kurt's boyfriend!

Alas! Cory Monteith has passed away! One more casualty to fatal drug mix..... he is supposed to have died on account of an overdose of heroin and alcohol, in a hotel room in Vancouver, Canada. Glee-lovers' remorse is too deep, and more of it for his girlfriend and co-star Lea Michele.
