Natural Highs

Natural Highs

[I came upon a beautiful piece on some of the things which give us a natural high, and hence thought of sharing the same with my readers, some parts were edited and composed afresh by me.
Think about them one at a time BEFORE going on to the next one...

1. Falling in love.
2. Laughing so hard that your face hurts.
3. A hot shower.
4. No queues at the supermarket
5. A special glance.
6. Getting some special mail.
7. Taking a drive on a pretty road.
8. Hearing your favorite song on the radio.
9. Lying in bed listening to the rain outside.
10. Hot towels fresh out of the dryer.
11. Chocolate milkshake (or vanilla or strawberry).
12. A bubble bath.
13. Giggling.
14. A good conversation.
15. The beach.
16. Finding a long-forgotten 100 rupee note in your shirt pocket.
17. Laughing at yourself.
19. Midnight phone calls that last for hours.
20. Running through sprinklers.
21. Laughing for absolutely no reason at all.
22. Having someone tell you that you're a beautiful person.
23. Laughing at an inside joke.
24. Friends.
25. Accidentally overhearing someone say something nice about you.
26. Waking up and realizing you still have a few hours left to sleep.
27. First kiss (either the very first or with a new partner).
28. Making new friends or spending time with old ones.
29. Playing with a new puppy/kitten.
30. Having someone play with your hair.
31. Sweet dreams.
32. Hot chocolate.
33. Road trips with friends.
34. Swinging on swings.
35. Making eye contact with a cute stranger.
36. Making chocolate chip cookies.
37. Having your friends send you some homemade cookies.
38. Holding hands with someone you care about.
39. Running into an old friend and realizing that some things never change.
40. Watching someone's expressions as they unwrap a gift from you.
41. Watching the sunrise.
42. Getting out of bed every morning and being grateful for one more day.
43. Knowing that somebody misses you.
44. Getting a hug from someone you care about deeply.
45. Knowing you've done the right thing, no matter what others think.

..... that's all friends!
You may add your own contributions to the list and even speak about your not approving of any of the ones featured by me above.
Friends, let's see if we can collectively expand the 'natural highs'.

Let's acknowledge the significance of friends in our lives:
"Friends are the angels who lift us to our feet when our wings have trouble remembering how to fly."

A nice, feel-good post. Though I would've been happy if you included some more in the list.....
my pet natural highs, apart from yours, would be:
*Finding some old letters or notes or tidbits that remind of a long-gone sweet past.
*Watching the sunset, especially with a loved one, at the beach.
*Finding a long-lost, cherished book, or a music album, or something similar.

I have just a couple of wee additions:

1) Feeding the birds.

2) Having a double scoop of one's favorite ice-cream, past-midnight, getting out of bed.

Really cool!

Hey Ani,
a surprise post from you this time! Liked it. As always.
But, I think you said the golden words right at the beginning, and also at the end, and to sum that up, I state:
the BEST natural high is that of being in LOVE, and glowing in the company of one's FRIENDS!

My favorites that have been given a miss, and that give me a definite natural high for sure:
i) Drinking green-coconut water,
ii) Knitting,
iii) Making paper-boats and paper-rockets, and testing them out in the bathroom and in the bedroom respectively,
iv) Displaying a devilicious side of mine by wearing a short skirt and high heels especially at a gathering of conservative and prudish people.

Cool, fun post!
I am high, naturally, on sleep, frozen yogurt, fruit & nut chocolates, and getting cozy (snuggling and snogging, and much else) with my love.

Awesome post, buddy!
I have recently discovered the joy of fishing, as I visited a friend who lives in an idyllic rural setting, hence I would love to include that as a natural high. Nothing compares to the thrill of watching the fish bite the bait....
so what if the entire act, spanning from getting ready for the fishing expedition to actually having a fine haul of fish, with a friend for company (optional in this case), takes hours!:-)

Thank you, I am really overwhelmed to see so many of you reading my post and liking it.
I would specially like to thank Arnab and Tanmay who are new to my blog, I hope my future write-ups too would have you commenting generously and earnestly.
Abhishek, Joy, Neeraj, Pallavi, and Mehul - I loved your inputs. And I am happy that my post made you recount your own natural highs.

Loved the post, as always :-). It is true that, as we go through the different phases of life, the things to make us happy also change. Thus all of your points will be true for most people at some point or the other of their life! For me, three of the points from your list has remained consistently the reason to give me happiness and they are the beach, waking up and realizing you still have a few hours left to sleep and watching someone's expressions as they unwrap a gift from you. :-)

That's so very true, sister.
I would also like to mention that the natural highs are more in terms of quantity, and that too at their peak when one is still young, and isn't counted as a grown-up by the world. As children, we live each moment as eternity... only looking forward to understand the grown-ups... and, in the words of DENNIS the Menace, by the time you fully understand grown-ups,
you ARE one!:-)

This one's surely one of the best compilations from you, pal!
The list is quite exhaustive, however, I would like to add one to it - a personal fave amongst the "natural highs"- though a bit wild - I bet most of my guy friends would agree when I say that there's nothing like romancing one's nether region while viewing FTV!;-)
