I like action films of all kinds, and I love those that have good fights in them, especially of the kind where the focus is on a combat sport, or has at least one inspirational fight sequence that motivates us to stand for justice and virtue.
I have seen all the films featured here, but I wish the list was longer as there are plenty more which I rate highly and would recommend for viewing.
Notable flicks absent include:
The Wrestler (2008),
The Boxer (1997),
The Fighter (2010),
Over the Top (1987),
Only God Forgives (2013),
and
Rocky 3 (1982; I like it even more than the first film in the series).

A cool listing, but I would have wanted a mention of many more!

It's very much unlike you to come up with a list of inspirational fight flicks, Ani, and I would love to hear your take on what exactly you found appealing about the genre or the movies that you have selected.

First and foremost, let me apologize for not being able to include more flicks in the list, largely because of having compiled it in a haste.

Inder, I would like to respond to your comment by saying that I really feel inspired by a good fight on screen. I think we all get a natural kick, a natural high, by rooting for our fighting hero when we watch such a flick. The reason is quite simple, we love the concept of fighting against odds. In real life, we all try putting up defenses in our own way, and it is so difficult to do, isn't it? Hence there can be no bigger stimulus for us than watching a proverbial dark horse emerge the champ in an event, in a fight, especially in the glorified narration on screen. Whether one fights for money, or for survival; for one's dreams, or to escape poverty; watching the protagonist fight under extreme duress, while being subjected to intense trauma and stress, with his/her energy and stamina sapped, and snatching victory, however unreal or stellar it be, is an unparalleled experience.
Just chew on it.
