Do they serve any useful purpose, as in dissemination of information, or are they just growing by leaps and bounds as just junk babbles on the Net?
We are in an era of fast and easy consumption, and even excretion of information. We seem to revel in the opportunity provided to all and sundry to churn out rubbish, along with the necessary and satisfactory content. We are all part of a world in which blogging provides psychologically masturbatory means of communicating as much with oneself to gratify our desperate need for ejaculating psycho-babble, as is the need to communicate with the invisible, the imaginable or the perceivable others.
People with similar interests have been able to bond better. They might be otherwise denied the opportunity of feedback sharing, or participating in the broader spectrum of reciprocity of views, ideas and emotions.
It is usually a tendency on the part of the critics to focus on the celebrity blogs, or that of the pop-culture genre, and give blogging a bad name. Blogging is a trend indeed, and is here to stay, for better or for worse; the future will be a witness, of course.

I don't know if blogging is a trend or a fad or both or none!!!! But as long as there are visions, dreams, joys, heartbreaks to be shared and mulled over, and as long as there is this need for self-expression in non-formal/ or semi-formal way, there will be blogs.
We need fellow spirits to cheer us, guide us, and help us see clearly; so we need the fellow bloggers' comments. The blog-space is an extension of the blogger's mindspace itself, and hence it is open to welcoming possibilities.
According to the Wilipedia, a blog (an abridgment of the term web log) is a website, usually maintained by an individual, with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video. Entries are commonly displayed in reverse chronological order.
Blogs may provide insightful commentary or even function as personal online diaries. A typical blog combines text, images, and links to other blogs, web pages, and other media related to its topic. The ability for readers to leave comments in an interactive format is what makes blogs an integral tool of contemporary culture.
From the conventional blogs that are textual in nature, to the ones that focus specifically on art (artlog), photographs (photoblog), sketchblog, videos (vlog), music (MP3 blog), and audio (podcasting), the blogs have come a long way.
Micro-blogging (writing blogs with very short posts) is also a phenomenon in itself that is sure to carry the revolution forward.

i don't know blogging is a fad or a passing phase!!...........but as far as someone is there in free mind just to share your views through this wonderful creature of networking thats just too cool for me!!
but i couln't completely agree with "People with similar interests have been able to bond better............." i have seen that people with dissimilar interrest or just having no ideas about of this blogspace also bond better in fact i have experienced that how could ones blogspace slowly became the means of anothers life......!!
good or bad, without doing rally itz the best thing to reach anothers mind, for a while at least.......

Blogs have become a part of our lives, at least for us netizens, for quite sometime.
I am sure that blogs are here to stay for the foreseeable future, be it in whatever form or on whatever platform of interface.
Blogs are increasingly showing narrow moralistic stance as well as skewed judgments of the bloggers, that is not a welcome sign. If blogs are here to stay for good, the bloggers too have a responsibilty to take blogging in a positive direction. Else, it might be just a fad.
